  • Approve agenda. Scott moved to approve, Kara Seconded.  Passed unanimously

Silvia:  Welcome to our John Rougeau, our new Parent Representative.

  • Principal report; votes on budget and related items.

Continued with Professional Development.  Ray is part of pilot for Personalized Learning.  Happy to be part of this program as it seems that CPS will be growing this part of the system.

Second Step Social-Emotional Curriculum.  Ray was on a pilot last year  This is a research-based methodology.  Eleni:  It is great to have a focus lesson and grows as they age and mature.

Grade Level Team – Will focus on specific themes for each week.  Also will include coaching every 4 weeks.

After School Tutoring – We received roughly a $17,000 stipend to pay teachers to provide before/after school programming for 360 hours.

Fran:  Could we incorporate volunteers to do some afterschool activities.

Scott:  Yes.  I am starting an Ultimate-Frisbee Club for Tues and Thurs.

Enrollment for SY17-18  – We are still 10-12 students down from our projected numbers for our budget.  But we expect to get them by Monday, the 10th day.  We have exhausted some of our waitlists but feel pretty good about the numbers.

Open House and State of the School this evening.

Sports – Girls Volleyball.

Town Hall and Teacher Prep:  New policy for 2 15-minute prep periods.  The older kids system seems to work.  The younger kids were better on the 2nd day but we are going to try something other than going to the auditorium.

Budget:  In order to balance the budget, we had to reduce our clerks to one position.  Ms McFarlane is on medical leave from December 2017.  Ms Vergara is filling her position.

Misc Support Position of $5,000 will allow the HPNC staff who helps with recess to work with small groups until the end of school when they will take the HPNC afterschool kids.  We need to move $5,000 from Internal Accounts (Parking Lot Lease Income) to the MISC Support Position.

Eleni moved, Andy seconded.  Passed Unanamiously

Also: we will need to move more money into the MISC Dean Position, roughly $16500 for the year as it becomes available if we are to keep that position.

Regarding the Town Hall and Teacher Prep:

Kara:  I thought it was a little crazy but a more concerned about the Kindergarten kids and parents for whom this was a major disruption for kids that have just started at this school and don’t have a lot of knowledge about the school.   Maybe you could ask me or other parents to have just talked them through the change.  Especially concerned after Pre-K enrollment debacle and disenfranchising neighborhood kids from attending their neighborhood school.

Terri Roback (Parent): Concerned about the lack of Teaching Time.  My child doesn’t have Morning Meeting, she has science.  Their Meeting is in the afternoon.  Taking 15 minutes away adds up to over 35 hours in a school year of Science.  How is this time getting put back into the school day?

Discussion ensued.

Megan:  We will be working on different systems to try and get kids together.

Terri:  What is the ratio of students to staff?  Megan:  Don’t know specifically but it is better than recess.

Scott left 8:30 am (7 total).

  • Vote to approve previous minutes:

Fran moved, Eleni Seconded. Passed Unanimously.
